A good seven centuries ago, the Italian painter Giotto di Bondone created 38 murals in the Capella Scrovegni / Arena Chapel in Padua with scenes from the life of St. Joachim and Anna, their daughter Mary and from the life of Jesus Christ. With this work Giotto is today considered the founder of Renaissance painting and the inventor of virtual space.

The installation:
In a small, completely black “box room”, the figure of the dreaming Joachim squats on a pedestal as a three-dimensionally reconstructed sculpture, which in turn was digitally processed as a 3D print. In analogy to the “angel” of the fresco, a flat screen monitor (freely suspended, diagonal, with the picture surface facing Joachim) is mounted at the side, left under the ceiling. A video painting can be seen on the monitor, on which images from various media documentations on the subject of “surveillance and tracking systems” (without sound) have been processed to such an extent that only fragile image segments behind a slowly moving play of color and light can be perceived. The composition by Arvo Pärt “Spiegel im Spiegel” (Mirror in the Mirror), in the cello-piano version (9 min. and 33 sec.) by Sebastian Klinger (cello) and Jürgen Kruse (piano), will be published in 2-channel stereo: Brilliant Classics, 2010.
